The Origins Of Bad Movie Night

The idea for Bad Movie Night was first conceived  in early 2012 (or possibly 2011; or maybe it's just been in our hearts for a long time). My friend Adam was in the Marine Corps and was going to be getting out soon and we would finally be living in the same general area after five years. Being that we both love movies and get a special kind of joy from bad ones, we decided that once he was back in New England we would have a weekly viewing of something deemed utter crap. Immediately Randy, one of Adam's best friends who also has a passion for bad movies, was added to the attendance roster as well as Adam's dad, Keith, who he used to watch movies with every week before joining the Corps. Adam's grandmother became an element of BMN because for a while all the nights were hosted at her house where his dad also lives. Later Adam's roommate (and later wife), Sarah, joined in and the nights were alternated between the two houses.

And thus a tradition had begun.

The first Bad Movie Night was held sometime in the last week of September or the first week of October 2012 and it was a movie chosen by Keith called "Motel Hell." Soon after, Keith got a composition notebook for us to record every movie we see and also write down potential suggestions for future films. The fate of notebook now is unknown, but Adam has a spreadsheet.

On March 25, 2013, I started a Facebook group to write short little summaries of the films and a general idea of what we thought about them, occasionally including a one sentence summary taken directly from the movie, best quotes, or a review from Adam's grandma. The group persisted for a while and we even got a few good recs from random people, but it good deleted by Facebook because I used the word rape in a post.

The Facebook group transitioned into blog format here on February 4th, 2014.
